Scammers are calling people and telling them that their Tax File Number (TFN) has been suspended. The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) do not suspend TFNs and will never request that you pay a fine or transfer money to protect your TFN pending legal action.  Scammers are advising people that to have their TFN reinstated they need to pay a fine or transfer funds. This is a scam.

Since 1 January 2021, the ATO has received 638 reports of this scam, with 7 victims paying out nearly $118,000.

If you are concerned by a phone call, SMS, voicemail, or email claiming to be from the ATO, Please contact our office. Do not provide any personal information or make any payments.  Alternatively, you can phone the ATO on 1800 008 540.
